@ ARCO Cincy
4870 Gray Rd, Cincinnati, OH

Free class --see details at the link

Experience level: Beginner

Class limit: 20

The art of spinning fiber into usable thread and yarn is an ancient practice more than 4,000 years old. Prior to the industrialization of the textile industry, this practice was primarily considered “women’s work,” and despite its outwardly mundane function, was actually a catalyst for innovation in society. This brief lecture looks at the symbolic interpretations of women’s inherent energy of creation in spinning practices, and also the very real world impacts of advancing civilization.

Participants will also explore a variety of spinning tools and techniques from around the world, and will have a hands-on lesson on using a drop spindle, learning how to spin wool into yarn, and tapping into the ancient energies of the spiral dance.

All materials will be provided, and participants will go home with a drop spindle and extra wool to practice their new skill.
