Slavic Botanical Color

A three-class series exploring the use of natural dyes in Slavic Cultures.

Part lecture, part hands-on workshop, this series will introduce you to the vibrant colors created by plants and other natural materials with great significance from Slavic lands. A great, intensive way to delve into exploring your heritage or beginning a practice of fibercraeft.

Dates: August 13, 20 & 27, 2022 - 1pm-3pm EST via Zoom

**2022 CLASS FULL**

Highlights of this series include:

-A historical understanding of Slavic natural dyes & processes.

-Folklore and practices surrounding over 12 specific plants and natural materials.

-How-to and hands-on experience with 4 select dyes discussed in class.

*There is assigned "homework" and recommended reading and practices that go along with these lessons, however, these can be done at your own pace. I will say that the more effort you put into this course, the more you will get out of it!

**No prior experience necessary. I am always available for questions and help.

***This class is taught in English, although I will be using various languages to talk about specific plants and practices. That said, I want to be clear that I come from a Polish background, and from which much of my knowledge stems. I do my best to talk more generally about the commonalities found in Slavic cultures, but the understanding that Slavic culture is complex and highly regional is an underpinning of this class.

Class Materials

-By registering online you will receive a kit with wool yarn & natural dye materials.

-There will be a list of equipment needed for natural-dyeing that will be sent via email with your class registration confirmation. Much of this equipment you likely already have as household items or can find second-hand.

-A notebook or other note taking device will be helpful during class.

Attendance & Accessibility
I highly recommend attending this class in-person, especially if you would like to ask questions in a live setting. That said, I recognize it can be difficult to schedule, especially if you're tuning in from a different time zone. Therefore I am making the recordings available for viewing until November 1, 2022.

The classes will be taught live via Zoom, if you have any accessibility needs prior to the class, please let me know so that I can arrange for them. My email is listed at the bottom of the page.

*By registering for this class you agree to not share the class materials, including the Zoom link, class recording, printed pdfs, resources and other class information outside of the classroom unless you have contacted me for permission first and include proper citation. I want to be clear that this is about ensuring respect for the ancestral lineage of information, not only the info I share from my own practices and experiences, but from my teachers and resources, and through which you become a part of by taking this class.

CLASS FULL - Registration closed as of 7/1/22
