New Year, New Card

Every year, when the nights get long and the year is at a close, I do a tarot reading for myself to gain insights on what the year ahead may bring. I reflect on where I've been, where I am now, and what path I might be following forward, as well as overall themes that transcend the months that make up the wheel of the year.

Reflecting on 2020 has been interesting. All the signs were there from my reading; the Ten of Swords with themes of an inevitable end, regeneration, and recovery; the Three of Swords hinting at a lack of foresight and unexpected delays; and the card for my future self--the Five of Wands, with the tension of conflict/avoidance. Hindsight really is 20/20.

Catch up to now, December 2020, when I light a candle and sit down with my cards to take a peek into future possibilities. I shuffle my deck and lay each card out with care.

Past self...Knight of Swords reversed. Unfocused and burnt out.

Current self...Six of Swords. Leaving the past behind and embracing the change.

Future self...Queen of Cups. Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!

I will underscore that regardless of what the cards may suggest, you have the ability to choose what type of energy you bring into the new year, but I will say, it's encouraging to be bringing Queen of Cups energy with me in 2021.
